Freedom is RUSH 2The DEN’s SEND youth club for primary school-aged young people with additional needs, aged 5 to 10.
The club runs every Thursday from 4:30pm to 6:00pm, offering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space where children can play, explore, and build friendships at their own pace.
A space for the whole family
Freedom is open not just to the children who attend, but also to parents, carers, and siblings. After speaking with families, it was clear that having a space like this for everyone was really important.
While the children enjoy activities, play, and social time, parents and carers can take a moment to relax, chat, share experiences, and support one another. It’s about creating a community, not just a club.
Designed for younger children
Freedom is tailored specifically for younger children, with activities that support early development, confidence, and social skills in a fun and engaging way.
We understand that every child is different, so we aim to create an environment where children feel comfortable being themselves, whether they want to join in with others or enjoy quieter play.
A range of engaging activities
Each week, we provide a variety of activities to suit different interests, needs, and energy levels. These may include:
- role play areas to encourage imagination, communication, and social interaction
- games and physical play to build confidence and coordination
- quieter areas with puzzles and simple games for calmer moments
- construction toys to support focus, creativity, and problem-solving
- arts and crafts activities, with guided projects as well as free creative time
- sensory play, such as sand, water, play dough, and other hands-on experiences
These activities help children explore, learn, and have fun in ways that feel natural and enjoyable to them.
Shaped by families
We regularly listen to feedback from children and their families to help shape the sessions. Whether it’s trying new activities or adapting what we offer, we want Freedom to reflect what works best for those who attend.
We are always open to ideas and happy to try new things to make the club as enjoyable and supportive as possible.
